Topic: Spring, Number Rhymes and Festivals

 

Foundation Stage Curriculum Planning

Information for Parents & Carers

The curriculum is divided into 6 areas of learning and is implemented using a topic approach.  It would help if you could extend the children's own interest in these topics by using resources that you may have at home or can access in the local area.

How can you help?

Personal & Social Development

  • Separate from main carer with support
  • Have a positive approach to new experiences
  • Make connections between different parts of their life experience
  • Liaise with staff and be consistent with child
  • Give your child the opportunities to try something new ie a new food, making ‘pictures' with diffent materials etc
  • Talk about the weather as you walk to school, look at photographs of events in your child's life

 

Communication, Language and Literacy

  • Use isolated words and phrases and/or gestures to communicate with those well known to them
  • Draw and paint sometimes giving meaning to marks
  • Respond to simple instructions
  • Talk with and listen to your child, responding to what they say
  • Give your child the opportunity to draw using pens, crayons etc, or give them a small container of water and a paintbrush to do ‘water painting' outside
  • Ask your child to carry out very simple tasks ie ‘can you put the book next to the puzzle on the shelf'

 

Mathematical Development

  • Show and interest in numbers and counting
  • Enjoy joining in with number rhymes and songs
  • Observe and use positional language
  • Count everyday objects with you child i.e. the apples in the fruit bowl
  • Sing number rhymes with your child i.e. 10 green bottles
  • Use language such as ‘same as', ‘fewer', 'more' etc
